Rose Adams James, 96, of Walker, MN passed away Saturday, January 5, 2019 at Heritage Living Center in Park Rapids, MN.
Rose was born June 10, 1922 in Cass Lake, MN to Phillip and Frannie (Parshall) Adams. She was raised and attended school in Cass Lake. Rose was working as a waitress for Thrifty Drug when she met Joseph James. On January 22, 1949, she married Joseph in Kingman, Arizona. The couple raised four children in Lawndale, California, where they continued to live until 1977. Upon retirement, they relocated to Onigum, east of Walker, MN. Rose was a member of the Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe and volunteered for the band in various capacities. She enjoyed going to casinos.
She is survived by sons, Joseph (Mary) James, Jr., Charles (Loretta) James; daughter, Celesta (Lavern) Nelson; 17 grandchildren; and 30 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph James, Sr.; daughter, Marlene; sons, Russell, Raymond, Phillip; 1 grandchild, Michael; 1 brother; and 4 sisters.
Visitation for friends and family will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, January 10, 2019 at the Dennis Funeral Home in Walker with a funeral service following at 11:00. Interment will be in Fort Ripley Cemetery in Little Falls, Minn. Arrangements are being made with Dennis Funeral Home of Walker. (www.dennisfuneralhome.com)
