Norma Darlene SchoonoverJanuary 11, 1926 ~ June 23, 2017 (age 91)
Norma Darlene Schoonover, 91, died at home on Friday, June 23, 2017, after a long battle with cancer.
Darlene was born January 12, 1926, in Bemidji to Perry and Elma (Peterson) Gary. She graduated from Bemidji High School and Bemidji Business School. Darlene was a drum majorette in the Bemidji Drum and Bugle Corps as a teenager. She took great pride in the group which was active for many years under the direction of Gert Ness.
She married Stanley Schoonover on February 24, 1951. They shared 64 wonderful years together. They had two children: Jim Schoonover and Nancy (Schoonover) Djonne.
Darlene was the bookkeeper at the E.H. & Vye Lumber Company for many years while Stanley was the business manager. She retired with Stan in 1983. Darlene was a regular at coffee clutches at the Colonial Kitchen and later at Raphael's Bakery.
She was a devoted mother and grandmother, hosting birthday parties and any holiday where a meal was part of the celebration. Her family was always her first priority. She will be greatly missed by everyone.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Stan, her parents and two brothers, Roland Gary and Vernon Gary. She is survived by her son Jim Schoonover, her daughter Nancy (Mike) Djonne, four grandchildren, six great grandchildren and many friends.
A private family gathering will be held later in the summer at Greenwood Cemetary. Memorials are preferred to the Bemidji Hospice.
Arrangements are by Midwest Cremation Association, Walker, Minnesota.
