Louis Scott Nelson, 59, of Walker, MN died Sunday, December 23, 2018 at his home.
Louis was born January 15, 1959 in Robbinsdale, MN to John and Laura (Simmons) Nelson. He graduated from high school in Cambridge, MN and enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He served in active duty for 3 years and 10 months out of Pearl Harbor, HI and then transferred to the naval reserve. Following his military service, he worked in maintenance at Cambridge Hospital and then was a caretaker/manager of an apartment building. In recent years, he bartended at the Akeley VFW and also at the Akeley Municipal Liquor Store. Louis enjoyed working in his garage on small engines, snowmobiling, and listening to music. He loved doing things for others and “always being there” for his friends and neighbors. He was particularly fond of his pet parrot.
He is survived by his parents; his wife, Virginia Nelson; son, Larry Nelson of Park Rapids, MN; daughter, Naomi (Mike) Williams of Shakopee, MN; 4 grandchildren; brothers Dale Nelson, William Joseph (Kim) Nelson; sisters, Deana Anderson, and Renee Grimm.
A public visitation will be from 5-7:00 PM on Saturday, December 29, 2018, at the Dennis Funeral Home in Walker, Minnesota. A private family service will follow. Arrangements are being handled by Dennis Funeral Home of Walker, MN (www.dennisfuneralhome.com).
