Leroy Nels Strand, 59, of Laporte, MN died Friday, June 1, 2018 at his home.
Leroy was born May 8, 1959 to Nels and Leona (Gack) Strand in Bemidji, MN. He grew up in Benedict, where he lived his entire life. He graduated from Walker High School with perfect attendance during all his years there. Going on to attend Moorhead Vocational Technical School, Leroy trained as an electrician, starting as a journeyman; then becoming a master electrician in 1984. A fair and honest businessman, he owned and operated Benedict Electric for over three decades.
Leroy was a kind man who loved to stop in to visit and share a cup of coffee. He was genuinely interested in the welfare of others and was very sincere when he inquired about one’s day. He enjoyed people in general, but especially cherished his great nephews, and the time that he spent with them. Leroy was dedicated to the Immanuel Lutheran School and enjoyed working on leather projects with the students there. His face was a familiar one as he was a very involved member of the church and was particularly active in its fundraising efforts. He served on the Immanuel Lutheran School Board and on the BiCap Board of Directors. His hobbies included beef cattle, beekeeping, (making and selling honey), and crafting at his sawmill.
Survivors include sister, Marie (Jim) Morgan; nephew, Trevor (Stacie) Lindahl; great nephews, Brandon, Noah, and Logan; and several cousins.
Leroy was preceded in death by his parents; an infant sister; great nephew, Maxwell; brother-in-law, John Lindahl; and several aunts and uncles.
A visitation for friends and family will be held Sunday, June 10, 2018 from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. at Dennis Funeral Home in Walker. Funeral services will be at Immanuel Lutheran at 1:00 pm on Monday, June 11, 2018 with Pastor Matthew Vrudny officiating. Following refreshments, interment will be in Lakeport Cemetery in Laporte.
