Charles “Chick” Edward Knight, age 92, passed away on Wednesday, February 6, 2019, peacefully at home.
Charles was born on November 26, 1926, in Lincoln, Nebraska, to George and Helen (Gruver) Knight. He grew up in Lincoln, Nebraska where he attended Northeast High School and went to University of Nebraska and received his Bachelor’s Degree from Wesleyan University. (Football Hall of Fame 1947 Wesleyan University)
Chick served in the Navy for two years 1944-46. He married Norma Settell, his wife of 67 years. They had four sons, Scott, Tim, Brad and Tom.
Chick worked in many different professions including law enforcement, teacher, coach, FBI agent, banker, resort owner, and real estate agent. He was involved in the Lincoln, Nebraska area Lions Club, a driving force for the building of Northeast YMCA and The Four Wheel Drive Club. They moved to the Walker area in 1975 where he purchased and operated a resort. Chick was involved in the Walker Area Chamber of Commerce, Hubbard County Board of Adjustments, Township Supervisor, Walker Community Church Board Member, a founding father of the Minnesota Congress of Resorts, as well as a regular at the coffee club of Benedict/Laporte. He loved to spend time watching/coaching/supporting his grandchildren and community at Walker High School sporting events. He attended countless games both home and away in volleyball, softball, football, hockey, track and field.
Charles will be forever remembered by his wife Norma; four sons: Scott (Deb) Knight, Tim (Mary) Knight from Lincoln Nebraska, Brad Knight, and Tom (Patty) Knight, from Benedict; nine grandchildren: Heather, Ryan, Carrie, Andrew, Simon, Jack, Kate, Taylor, and Sarah; six great-grandchildren: Raina, Evi, Avery, Nora, Henry, and Haddie. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Dorothy, and brothers George “Bus” and John.
A Visitation will be held on Friday, March 8th, from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at the Dennis Funeral home of Walker. A memorial service will be held at the Community Church of Walker, on Saturday March 9th at 11 am.
