William Richard Watson, 92, of Walker, MN, passed away Thursday, July 20, 2017 at Golden Living-Walker Rehab.
William was born May 6, 1925 in Madrid, IA to James and Bertha (Williams) Watson. He grew up in the Motley/Staples area and, at the age of 17, was drafted into the military. He served with the U.S. Marine Corps 1st Marine Division Infantry and 6th 155 Howitzer Battalion 6th Marine Division Guadalcanal to Okinawa in the Western Pacific. He moved to Walker in 1984 and worked with his son, Rick at the Wedgewood Golf Course near Walker. Bill was an active member of the American Legion. In his free time, he enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Bill is survived by son, Rick (Sally) of Walker; daughter, Linda (Arlene) of Oak Grove; 3 grandchildren, and 7 great-grandchildren; and sister, Lioma, of Minneapolis. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Marcella; and numerous siblings.
In Lieu of flowers William’s family request memorials to go to Walker American Legion (Spencer-Ross Post #134).
Visitation will be Friday, July 28, 2017 from 10:00 a.m. until the 11:00 a.m. funeral service at the Dennis Funeral Home in Walker with Rev. Bob Dennis officiating. Full military honors will be accorded by the Walker American Legion (Spencer-Ross Post #134). Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Walker, Minnesota. Arrangements are by Dennis Funeral Home of Walker.
