Warren WulfekuhlerOctober 21, 1931 ~ March 5, 2017 (age 85)
Warren Vinson Wulfekuhler, age 84, passed away suddenly at his home on Lake Kabekona in Minnesota on Sunday, March 5, 2017.
Born October 21, 1931 the son of Louis Eugene and Evelyn (Hall) Wulfekuhler. Warren was raised in Ottumwa, Iowa. He attended the University of Kansas and received his doctorate of medicine from the Tulane University Medical School. He married his childhood sweetheart Sarah “Sally” Bailey in 1954 while in medical school. After an internship at Charity Hospital in New Orleans, he completed his residency in Urology at Orange Memorial Hospital in Orlando, Florida. He went on to serve as captain in the US Air Force stationed in Dayton, Ohio. Warren then began a 30 year medical practice of Urology with Surgical Associates in Mason City, Iowa, in 1963. During this time, he was a clinical professor with the University of Iowa teaching many Fellows.
Warren and Sally were elders at the First Presbyterian Church in Mason City where he taught Sunday school, served on the Committee on Ministry for North Iowa Presbytery, and was Clerk of the Session for 10 years. He was actively involved as an actor, director, and president of the Mason City Community Theater as well as a leader with the Boy Scouts. Warren and his family’s lives were forever changed when they volunteered for Project Hope on the Navaho reservation in Ganado, Arizona and touched many lives during a mission trip to Penasco, New Mexico.
In 1995 Warren and Sally moved to Lake Kabekona in northern Minnesota. They loved their community of wonderful friends and were active members of the Community Church of Walker. They enjoyed many outdoor activities as well as singing in the church choir and with the Kabekona Singers.
Warren was a loving, caring, and patient man. Above all he adored his family and was proud of each of them. He loved his church and his northern home. He enjoyed canoeing, sailing, fishing, sports, puzzles, music, theater and was an avid reader.
Warren was preceded in death by his parents Louis Eugene and Evelyn, brothers Hall and Louis Eugene, sister Adine.
Warren is survived by his loving wife Sarah “Sally” Bailey, sister Evelyn and children W. Scott (Joni), Sarah Low (Brent), and Louis “Ted” (Marilyn), eight grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and many loving relatives and friends.
Warren Wulfekuhler, age 85 of Laporte, MN, passed away on Sunday, March 5, 2017 at his home. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Friday, March 10, 2017 at the Walker Community Church in Walker with visitation for family and friends one hour prior to the service.
Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, March 11, 2017 at 1:00 at First Presbyterian Church 100 South Pierce Ave Mason City, IA, with fellowship to follow.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Warren’s name to Heifer International or the Kabekona Lake Association.
