Martin Edward Hartmann, 62, of Walker, MN died Friday, January 26, 2018 at Sanford Medical Center in Fargo, ND.
Marty was born August 20, 1955 in Mahnomen, MN to Howard and Bernice (Hindermann) Hartmann. He grew up on the family farm near Waubun, MN. He attended and graduated from Waubun High School; he enlisted and served in the U.S. Army 1977 to 1979; and subsequently graduated from Detroit Lakes Vocational School in 1980. On August 1, 1981, he married Gayle Christianson and the couple began their life together in Walker, MN. Marty worked for Bailey Lumber and Thompson Restoration before becoming a self-employed carpenter, which continued for 36 years.
Marty enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He excelled in cribbage and participated regularly in tournaments. He loved to tease people, but always in good humor.
Marty is survived by his wife, Gayle; son, Brandan (Genoa) Hartmann; daughter, Bridget (Marty) Katzenmeyer; grandchildren, Jacob, Bradley, Abram, Mason, Kaleb; sisters, Minnie (DuWayne) Thompson, Rosie (Bob) Speldrich; many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Allen; one sister, Molly; and nephews Andy and Robert.
A visitation for friends and family will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Sunday, January 28, 2018 at St. Agnes Catholic Church. On Monday, January 29, 2018, a 9:00 mass will be led by Father Tim Lange, also at St. Agnes. A spring burial with military honors will be in Waubun Cemetery, Waubun, MN.
