Longtime Laporte, Minnesota resident, Doris Minnie Clyde, 89, died Thursday, April 27, 2017 at Country Manor in Sartell, Minnesota. She passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, May 6, 2017 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Laporte, where she was a member since 1947. Visitation will be one hour before the service and from 6-8 p.m. on Friday, May 5, 2017, also at Trinity. Interment will be in Lakeport Cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by Dennis Funeral Home (www.dennisfuneralhome.com).

Doris was born July 31, 1927 in Ortonville, MN to Arthur and Minnie (Pagel) Mueller, the second of four children. She grew up on the family farm near Big Stone City, SD. She graduated from Big Stone City High School in 1944 at the age of 16. While working in Ortonville she met Frank Harley Clyde to whom she was married on February 1, 1947. They made their home in Laporte where Doris resided until her health declined. The couple was married for 36 years and raised six children before Harley passed away on October 31, 1983. Doris later married Vern Norton (1988-2004).

Doris cherished her role as wife and mother. In addition to holding a variety of jobs she also worked alongside her husband in their business ventures (Clyde Excavating and Clyde Realty). In 1969 she began working as a postal clerk and on February 4, 1983, she was appointed Postmaster of the Laporte Post Office. Doris was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church helping where God called her. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and of the Lion’s Club. Doris shared her love of sewing, baking bread, fishing, gardening and canning with her children. She was well known for her dill pickles.  Her lady slippers and poppies brought her joy. She enthusiastically played a variety of games; especially  Scrabble, bridge, crossword puzzles and cryptograms. She loved to dance, bowl, travel and visit casinos. As an avid reader she always had books and newspapers nearby. Most of her family members have stories of picking blueberries in the north woods with her. She was a lifelong learner. Most of all, Doris loved her family.

Doris is survived by her six children: Karen (Gary) Gustafson of Hayward, WI, Janice (David) Algoe of St. Cloud, MN, Cynthia (Gary) Dahl of Dolores, CO, Marcia (Roger) Poganski of St. Cloud, MN, Harley (Tammy) Clyde of Laporte, MN, Kenneth Clyde of Laporte, MN; grandchildren: Ronda (David) Lee of Hayward, WI, Candace (Greg) Biskup of Hayward, WI, Kimberly (Joshua) Bettcher of Detroit Lakes, MN, Sara Algoe (Matt Panosh) of Hillsborough, NC, Renee Dahl of Colorado Springs, CO, Nathan (Laurel) Algoe of Denver, CO, Allison  (Jeremy) Smith of Suwanee, GA, Ashley (Joseph) Holmseth of Sartell, MN, Dustin (Vanessa) Clyde of Dilworth, MN, Craig Poganski of St. Augusta, MN, Casey Clyde (fiancée Sarah Messenger) of Arlington, VA, Ciera Clyde (fiancé Jared Stine) of Fergus Falls, MN, Mikaela Clyde of Laporte, MN, Mika Clyde of Laporte, MN; 13 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; sister, Marlys (Marlyn) Storm of Inver Grove Heights, MN, sister-in-law, Ruthie Albrecht of Laporte, MN, brother-in-law, Raymond (Jackie) Clyde of Laporte, MN, brother-in-law, Gordon Oslin of Grand Rapids, MN; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
