A celebration of life will be held Saturday, January 27th, 2018 from Noon – 3:00 pm at the Cass Lake Senior Center. Please join us for fellowship and lunch. Interment will be at a later date.
Connie was born February 5th, 1926 in Cass Lake, MN to Arnold and Blanche (Halverson) Larson. He and his cousins (21 Larson and 2 Halverson) were raised in the area and all graduated from Cass Lake High School. After his graduation in 1943, Connie served during World War II with the U.S. Army 70th Infantry Division in France and Germany. He earned the Combat Infantry Badge and was awarded the Bronze Star before being honorably discharged June 8th, 1946. He attended the Minneapolis School of Arts on the GI Bill, then returned to Cass Lake, continuing the family business of building wood boats, adding service and repair, and later operating SailStar Marina for many years.
Conrad and Dorothy “Skip” (Joslin) were married on November 27th, 1957 and recently celebrated their 60th anniversary. They were blessed with a son, Darryl and daughter, Karen. All his life, Connie looked forward to the hunting and fishing seasons, from planning the adventures to the stories afterwards with the coffee crew. He and Skip also traveled, visiting all 50 states and making several trips overseas. In later years, they drove south during the winter months for camping, taking a boat along whenever possible.
Connie was a loving family man and loyal person, a true friend. He enjoyed classical music, making fudge, and playing cribbage. He always had a project in the shop and everyone appreciated his assistance with engineering or design challenges. A good friend once said “He can fix most anything, and if he can’t, he will make an even better substitute”.
Connie is survived by his wife Skip, son Darryl (Melinda “Mindi” Matthews) and daughter Karen (James Halver); grandsons Brander (Emily), Drake, and Korgen Halver, great-grandson Jackson; Mindi’s children Lyndsie (Shea), Dylan (Emily), and Brandon (Amber); grandchildren Shea Jr, Everett, Riley, Laney, Lincoln, and Ellianna. Connie is also survived by a sister Laurel (William) Kinghorn, two nieces and six nephews: Steven, Catherine, Jeff, Allison, Matthew, Peter, Tim and Troy.
Connie is preceded in death by his parents, brother Corydon and sister-in-law Laberta Larson Lyle, sister Karen Marjory Larson, brother-in-law Donald Joslin, nephew Thomas Joslin, and nephew’s wife Brenda Larson.
